Meet Dawn
My name is Dawn Sánchez (she/her), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and founder of The Breath Between Psychotherapy. I’m a Black woman, Brooklyn native, proudly raised by a Puerto Rican family. I bring both grounded steadiness and directness into my work.
I have been practicing for over a decade and hold a degree from Adelphi University School of Social Work. I completed a two-year postgraduate program at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP) in New York City, where I trained in their Integrated Trauma Program, and I have also completed Level 1 training through the Internal Family Systems (IFS) Institute. These trainings strengthened my foundation in trauma treatment and deepened my use of evidence-based, experiential modalities.
My approach integrates EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic therapy, attachment-based work, and mindfulness to provide specialized trauma therapy for adults seeking meaningful and lasting change. This allows us to support change not only at a cognitive level, but within the nervous system—where trauma is often held.
I work with people who appear capable on the outside but feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or exhausted inside. Many clients come to therapy carrying the effects of complex trauma, chronic stress, family wounds, sexual trauma, anxiety, or long-standing self-protective patterns.
My work is intentionally slow-paced and collaborative, designed for those who value curiosity, patience, and meaningful change over quick fixes. Together, we focus on healing the deeper roots of distress, restoring safety in the body, and helping you build a more secure relationship with yourself.
Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, reading, and staying active through swimming, yoga, Pilates, meditation, and boxing. I live in the Hudson Valley with my family and two cats—Zeus, a frequent telehealth visitor, and Bakari, who occasionally makes a surprise appearance.
I believe in intentional, slow-paced work,
strong therapeutic relationships, and change that happens
at the level of the nervous system.
What Sets Us Apart
Nervous System–Led Work
I focus on how experiences show up in the nervous system in real time, not just how they are understood intellectually.
Experiential, Not Just Talk-Based Therapy
I integrate EMDR, IFS, somatic therapy, and mindfulness to work directly with thoughts, emotions, and body-based experience.
Paced for Real Change
I slow the process down so change is integrated, sustainable, and not driven by urgency or quick fixes.
